The ability to turn down gas fired boilers during low load periods beyond the typical 5:1 ratio can help utilities successfully compete in today's deregulated utility market.

Benefits:

  • Reduces non-peak demand running costs.
  • Significantly decreases energy loss during low load periods.
  • Enables boiler turn-down ratios of up to 16:1.

How it works:
Our patent-pending retractable, in-furnace Lance burners can be installed in existing boilers to achieve boiler turn-down ratios as high as 16:1. This controls superheat and reheat temperatures to prevent moisture line (Wilson line) creep in the LP turbine. Since Lance burners are separately fired and controlled for each reheat and superheater section, ideal steam temperatures can be maintained over the turn-down range of the boiler.

RJM also provides patented, variable speed couplings and direct rpm feedback instruments to allow equipment such as feed pumps, forced draft fans and induced draft fans to be turned down over a range matching that of the boiler without hysteresis and timelag concerns.
